When you buy a property, the price value of it appreciates per square meter and this should tell you that every space of your property counts and is an asset. No asset should go to waste and that is why efficient space planning is important.
When you consult with design professionals, the basic expectation is they know how to do proper space planning. Unfortunately, for more than four years that I have been dealing with architects and interior designers, as a furniture maker, their license do not guarantee that they are all good at space planning. This means, for your protection, you have to also do your homework as the client.
An ideal space is one that reflects your needs and wants based on your lifestyle and ease.
The first factor to consider is the purpose of the specific area of your residence. We are used to having a room for a specific purpose but these days, some rooms can hold multiple uses. For example, your bedroom can also be your home office now that majority of the companies require a work from home setup due to the pandemic or the kitchen may also have the dining area. Your space planning should have the complete floor plan to also determine the kind of furniture and appliances you should buy to not make it look cluttered when the plan has been executed.
The advantage of space planning when done right, is the sense of balance. The harmonious marriage of function and aesthetic brings balance to your interior design. The theme and color palette should come after the spaces have been properly allocated.
